Mertz Music
In 2014 I connected with Mertz, a hip-hop artist & studio engineer from Cambridge, MA by way of Burlington, VT, to create a personal logo & wordmark that he could use in all of his work as an audio professional.
Mertz expressed a love of bold, iconic logos from hip-hop’s Golden Age, as well as a desire to pay homage to his home state of Vermont. I worked to create a stylized M that would simultaneously imply mountains, electricity & waveforms.
While the original logo concept was developed with a circular motif in mind, I also created a stand-alone version of the M. While they’ve all seen use in the years since, the most official version one still used today is the inverted/knockout variant.
